Greymail unsubscribe issue: 400 bad request

Have an issue where clicking on the unsubscribe link at the top of an email.  It takes you to a Cisco branded page (url begins with secure-web.cisco.com) but it just says 400 Bad Request.

We've seen this unsubscribe feature a real hit or a miss.  Its very inconsistent.  Does anyone else in this community use this graymail feature or did you find its inconsistencies not worth it and remove it altogether?

Hi Keith,

One possible reason for the error could be the URL length being greater that 2000 bytes which is currently being tracked under the below defect.

https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuy27582/?reffering_site=dumpcr

It would also help to review the original URL prior to it being re-written. You can choose to archive a copy of the original email from the incoming mail policy graymail configuration.

Thanks

Ok how about those emails that say unsubscribing in progress...

I have some where it gives me a success message, many that just give me an infinite 'in progress' message (which never completes) and some that are http 400 bad request.

Possible unsubscribe issues that will not be automatically processed from through the ESA may be:

  • Authorization/Account information needed
  • Proxy or other security appliance/software is involved in the URI/unsubscribe chain
  • Host/domain may not have proper mailer setup that handles unsubscribe requests.

So the response would vary from URL to URL.

I would recommend opening a TAC case if you would like help determining the exact cause for a specific URL.

Thanks!
