I recently migrated from the physical SMA (M170) to the new virtual appliance which went smooth. The one thing I would like to do is to (if possible) is to merge or migrate the message tracking from the old device into the new virtual SMA so I have one location for all tracking information. Is this possible or is there a way to backup/restore the tracking info (through CLI/FTP/SSH/ETC) from the old device to the new device?
I am very proficient with CLI and the devices but not sure how to backup and restore the tracking info. Cisco once told me this was possible and then later told me this was not possible. So any input or advice would be greatly appreciated..

Sorry, but this is not possible unless you have an M-series appliance to do it for you.
The message tracking data is stored in a database so you would have to do it as a database merge (upsert) with a dbms application that could read and write to the db rather than doing it at a file level. In addition, the file system where that db is stored is not accessible to the end user so you can't get to it anyway.
If you had an M-series appliance, you could just point the new appliance to the M-series and the tracking would be automatically combined when you did searches.

Thank you for the replies everyone, we decided to decom the physical SMA and no longer worry about anything over 30 days.

Hello Joshua,
Typically the requirements to consider for this backing up of datasets from one SMA to another
requirements:-
1) Same AsyncOS version on both devices
2) What virtual is being run, M100V or M300V (etc).
3) Is there enough space in the virtual system to accomodate the data from the M160 data.
You can check the disk usage of the M160 in the CLI > diagnostic > Disk_usage
For the process to review the process is:-

I hope this helps.
Regards,
Matthew
