NDR notification on external domain Cisco ESA C170

hi,

see the example below

abc@sample.com sends an email to xyz@sample.com (deleted email) = successfully sends a NDR or bounceback notification but if

abc@yahoo.com sends an email to xyz@sample.com (same email) = no NDR or bounce back notification

when sending a mail  that is already deleted on domain, a bounce back notification will reply (same domain), but when using an external email(yahoo.com/gmail.com) no bounce back notification is received.

is this a normal setup that the ironport will not send a bounce notification if i am using an external domain(yahoo/gmail)

Hey Philbert,

If the ESA starts delivery to the domain sample.com and gets a 5XX SMTP reply code, it should generate an NDR for the original sender.

However if the email actually goes to sample.com, and sample.com bounces the email, it will send the bounce email to the ESA, the ESA should then send it to yahoo/gmail servers.

I would advise to check the message trackinmg for the test sent from yahoo/gmail to sample.com
