Hi,

We are using Physical IronPort servers in our environment. I would like to gather information on difference between Physical and Virtual IronPort appliances as we plan to migrate to Virtual. Could you please explain below points:

1. What are the security risks in Virtual?

2. Cost details

3. How do we configure Virtual?

1. Same as physical.

2. Virtual is cheaper to buy from Cisco - but then you still need the physical hosts that you run your virtualisation platform on.

3.. Exactly the same as the physical.

Out of interest, is it known what limits are in place to prevent "over-provisioning" of the various v-subtypes of appliance?

A quick grub around doesn't reveal any published caps, but even assuming there are some then hefty over-provisioning might be useful for those who want to push the boat out on analysis.

The software is configured/tuned to use a specific amount of memory and hard drive.  I don't think you gain anything buy giving it more resources.
