Hi,
we have a single ASA 5505 with 256MB RAM (10-Users Base license) and we would like to upgrade to 9.2(4.5). According to the documentation, the upgrade path would be to upgrade first to 8.4.
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/asa/migration/upgrade/upgrade.html
I´m not quite sure if the ASA can handle the 9.x version due to the low amount of RAM. Are there any known restrictions upgrading this device to 9.2.x?
Thank you
Cheers,
Chris

Hi
According to this document: "As of Version 9.2 and later, all ASA 5505 licenses require 512 MB. If you only have 256 MB, the ASA image may not load into memory. See Cisco ASA Compatibility for memory requirements and upgrade information."
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/asa/asa92/release/notes/asarn92.html
According to this document, the ASA 5505 requires the same amount of RAM before and after version 8.3. But it would be good to double check that you actually have 256MB.

So I guess you will have to settle with 9.1 for your 5505 if you dont upgrade the amount of RAM.

Hi Henrik,
thank you for your reply. So upgrading to 8.4 and then to 9.1(7.4) would be safe I suppose?!
Yes, the ASA has definitely only 256MB RAM
Cheers,
Chris

Should not be a problem. I upgraded from 8.2(something) to 9.1 directly, without problem.

You may also want to look at the upgrade path before directly jumping to 9.1(7). You would need to go to 8.4(5) as a upgrade in between before going to 9.1(7).
