Is Dual Stack and NAT64 the same thing

Revising for CCNP route and look at the different types of NAT for IPv6 avavilable.

Bit confused about dual stack, NAT64, NPTv6. Are there any others I have missed?

From what I understand..

Dual Stack - ?? is this the same thing as NAT64?

NAT64 - IPv4 to IPv6 translation on same network

NPT64 - Single IPv6 1-1 translation

Any other information regarding this appreciated!

Also why would you use a 6to4 tunnel over NAT64.
Would you use 6to4 tunnel to external hosts on a different network and then NAT64 for internal hosts?
Thanks much appreciated!

I'm not sure I understand the question. These two things serve two completly different purposes.

6to4 tunnels provide IPv6 connectivity over IPv4 infrastructures. NAT64 is to translate between the two protocols.

- Dual Stack basically means using ipv4 and ipv6 side by side. You use ipv6 to access ipv6 hosts, ipv4 for ipv4 hosts and you normally give priority to ipv6 if the hosts have both ipv4 and ipv6 addresses. If you use dual stack, you do not need NAT64.

- NAT64 is used to translate from v4 to v6 and vice versa. This is used to access ipv4 only hosts from ipv6 only hosts and vice versa.

- NPTv6 is used to tranlate from v6 to v6, most likely from unique local addresses (ULD) to gobally unique addresses (GUA).
