Hello.
We have an old cisco acs v4.0 server and I would like to get it upgraded to 4.2 but on a different bit of hardware. Unfortunately no one at my company knows where the original media has been put for the v4.0 install. Can I extract or export the license file from the old server to put on the new one?
Thanks
Paul

In order to install ACS windows on windows server 2003/2008, you don't need any kind of license//serial//key. The only thing you should have a valid contract with cisco systems. I would like to inform you that ACS 4.2 is not available on CCO that nay you download. If you don't have ACS 4.2 setup, then you need to open up a TAC case, they would check your contract details and will publish the software on your CCO, if applicable.
Once you get the ACS 4.2 software from the TAC, you just need to install ACS on the server. It wouldn't ask you any key/serial no// license.
P.S: Since you're running on ACS 4.0, you first need to upgrade to 4.1.1.24 and then to ACS 4.2.0.124. ACS 4.1.1.24 database can be restored on the ACS v4.2.0.124
DO let me know if you need any further help on this issue.

Our Cisco contact has told us we need the .lic file from the original purchace.
I dont think anyone who still works at the company has a copy of this so I was hoping to extract it from the current platform before installing the new one.

Thats not true.
If you have ACS software, you may try installing it now. However, you should have a valid contract to get support/RMA/latest software images in future.
ACS INSTALLATION WOULD NOT REQUIRED ANY LICENSE.

Hello,
Everything that Jatin said is correct, but I just want to mention that the .lic file is required only on ACS 5.x version.
ACS 4.x does not required a license for installation.
Hope this clarify everything.

Dear Erick,
One of our client was supported by other Cisco partner. now they have contract with us. we want to order the cisco support for their ACS 4.0 for windows. but we couldnt find the serial number from software media. please advise where we can find the serial number for the software to get a cisco support.

There's no serial number either. I think you just need to order the ACS 4.x part and the service contract that goes with it. There's no SN and no licence.
