Hi to all,
i am getting through email a lot of Smart Licensing Authorization Renewal Failure messages.
The problem is the following: Our ISE is in a private vlan that it is not routed to the internet. Occasionally, through proxy i allow ths ISE to connect to Cisco SmartLicencing in order to acquire license details but generally i disallow this to happen.
The problem is that i am getting a lot of email messages of the form:
Alarm Name :
Smart Licensing Authorization Renewal Failure
Details :
Smart Licensing Authorization Renewal Failure: Details=Communication send error.
Description :
Renewal of Authorization with Cisco Smart Software Manager failed.
Severity :
Warning
Suggested Actions :
Refer to the ISE License Administration page to manually renew authorization with Cisco Smart Software Manager using the Refresh button in the Licenses table. Contach your Cisco partner if issue persists.
*** This message is generated by Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) ***
Sent By Host :1.2.3.4
Is there a way to suppress these email messages? The message cannot be disabled as you can see from the screenshot attached.
Thank you,
Ditter

Not sure how to suppress that either - I assume you need ISE to send legitimate emails and therefore disabling the SMTP is not an option?
Ideally you should be using the Satellite Server (ISE calls this Transport Mode) to connect to Smart Licensing. ISE is a bit broken unfortunately and doesn't play nicely with SSM. Perhaps Cisco are looking at fixing this in some near future. I gave up in the end and went back to traditional licensing. It wasn't for a lack of trying (three TAC cases and a lot of time wasted)

Hi Arne,
yes, disabling SMTP is not an option as i get other useful messages through smtp.
Thanks.

This is another bug since they added Smart Licensing. I pointed this out in the past, but it has never been fixed. The alarms are there as you can see, but you can't disable them which is silly. Why bother coding the fields and not making the controls activated. I tell customer to filter them out on the receiving side for now.

Exactly Paul ! The alarm is there but you can not disable it. Mybe i will also reside in doing some kind of filtering in the receiving side.
Thanks for your replies,
Ditter.

Here was our original community discussion on this for 2.2:
At first the alarms weren't even there. Now they are there, but you can't modify so pretty much useless.
