Assigning Vlans per client

Am currently running a network with 2 x 4500's and many 2950's / 3750's throught a med - large sized network. Wanting to seperate departments up into vlans based on the user. We have many users with laptops that roam from site to site, so they are not dedicated to one port. Is there an easy way for me to do this as the 4500's are not capable of running as VPMS servers, only VPMS clients (I think ??) ......???

Hi Jared,

VPMS is an older method of assigning VLANs. Note that URT (User Registration Tool) is now EOS/EOL. The use of a switch as a VQP server is getting more difficult as fewer platforms support that. Using switches as VQP clients is also going to start to become more limited.

Your best bet is to move to 802.1X and use ACS to assign the VLAN on a per user basis (or per user group).
