Best approach to LAN security with NAC

Hi all

I am about to run a Proof of concept for NAC

However, we need a little guidence on best practice on where to start with NAC

We originally wanted someething basic like only allowing trusted mac addresses on the network, however this doesnt seem feasible, and we are looking at basing policy on things like if the machine has windows, with our standard software installed etc.

whats the best and safest approach for this ?
