Cisco ISE BASE License Inquiry

Hi

Current ise version is 3.1.0.518.

I know that user licenses have become subscription-based since 3.x.

However, when I look at smart account -> virtual account -> Licenses, there are 1000 ISE Base Sessions.

Can't I use this?

An ISE 3.x system will not use an older style license, such as a Base, Plus or Apex. You need the Essentials, Advantage, Premier equivalent.

Sadly, you're a bit late, because the cut off date for old -> new license conversion was October 2024.

For many years, Cisco was allowing customers to convert old style licenses to the new "DNA" style licenses, and Cisco decided on an arbitrary end date as part of this conversion, since, in the new world, all ISE consumable licenses are term-based (i.e. 1 year, 3 years, etc.).  That date was Oct 2024. That means, you can no longer convert your old to new licenses, because they will have an expiration date of Oct 2024.

You need to purchase ISE-E-LIC licenses, which replace the Base license type.
