Hello,

does anyone know of a way to get a non-production  instance of ISE up and running in a virtual environment on a laptop (or desktop if need be) for training/learning

Upon first install of ISE it will be fully licensed for 90 days. It has to be destructively reset to renew the evaluation period but you could restore a backup back on to it. In a single node lab this isn't too much work and will run on a laptop in vmware workstation assuming you can give it enough memory/cpu.

I've found 8 GB ram and 8 cores is enough to keep it happy. On my laptop this is essentially free reign on the CPU as needed, it only really uses this during services start up and then idles reasonably.
