RADIUS or TACACS+ on Windows

Hello everyone,

Does anyone have a suggestion on a RADIUS or TACACS+ software that runs on a Windows and server not too expensive?  Going to be used primarily to secure a wireless Cisco network and authenticate VPN users.

Thanks in advance.  All replies rated.

For Radius on Windows you can use NPS, it's right built into Windows server so no extra cost.

TACACS+ is a cisco propritory and for that you have to use ACS server radius you can find opensource and its depends on what you want to achive.I would suggest you try and use cisco ISE (as radius server) it has alot of features such as Guest services,BYOD etc.

Also for windows you can use NPS .(server 2008 and later)

Thanks.  Office Politics is making this to move away from  Windows Servers and onto another platform.  ISE is too exspensive for management to move on at the moment.

Any more suggestions out there?

Hi Scott,

Did you mean radius AND tacacs+? If yes than you acs install ACS 4.2 on windows 2003 server.

If you would be fine with radius only than Microsoft NPS would suits your budget. It also easy to manage/troubleshoot.

Hello,

Windows server already comes with a RADIUS server that is call NPS. It works really good and it is already included on your windows license.

Freeradius is also a good option.
