Upgrade / Migrate ACS 4.1 towards 4.2

Hi all

I have some questions about migrating a Windows ACS server.

Currently we are running on ACS 4.1 / Release 4.1(1) Build 23

We have a active support contract for the ACS 4.1 ( CSACS-4.1-WIN-K9).

Now we want to upgrade to ACS 4.2 but this with some remarks.

1) Do we need to upgrade our contract towards CSACS-4.2-WIN-K9?

2) If we upgraded the contract can we download the new ACS 4.2 software from the CCO or do we need to buy the CD?

3) We want to install the ACS 4.2 with all latests patches on a new server, so also this will be a new IP address.

4) Do we need to copy all data from ACS 4.1 towards 4.2 this through a restore or database sync from ACS 4.1?

5) Using a eval version for ACS 4.2 and upgrading then to a licensed ACS 4.2 needs a uninstall of the eval version? I have read this on the discussion found on : https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/1002944?tstart=900

For point 4) I have found that we need to upgrade first to ACS4.1.1.24 before moving towards ACS4.2.X is this correct ?

Link: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_server_for_windows/4.2/installation/guide/windows/install.html#wp1080517

If somebody can answer this questions, this would be great.

Kind regards,

Philippe

Philippe,

     1) You do not need to upgrade your contract, you are entitled to ACS 4.2 if you have a valid contract for ACS 4.1.

     2) You will need to open a TAC case and get the software published for you, you do not need to purchase anything.

     3) That is fine, Install a fresh copy of ACS 4.2.0.124 then import your 4.1 database backup.  After this you can upgrade the new ACS to ACS 4.2.1.15 patch 3.  ACS 4.2.1.15 and ACS patch 4.2.1.15.3 are available on cisco.com here:

http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/release.html?mdfid=281458142&flowid=4398&softwareid=280805677

     4) No you can restore a 4.1.1.23 database into 4.2.0.124.

     5) Since you want to go with a fresh install and upgrade the database I would uninstall the Eval version first before installing 4.2.0.124.

Usually contracts for 4.x allow you to do minor upgrades like from 4.1 to 4.2.

You can try to access the download section for ACS, then if you can access it is because your contract allows you to do so and no need to open TAC SR.

This is the download area for ACS for Windows 4.2:

http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/release.html?mdfid=281458142&flowid=4398&softwareid=280805677.

Hi Jesse

Thanks for your response.

Do we always need to open a TAC case for getting an upgrade? Because as gold partner we can open x cases each month/year.

Thanks for the answers.

I opened a TAC case for downloading the main release ACS 4.2

I am now upgrading / installing the new ACS server.
