Cisco Prime Infrastructure unable to send email notifications when wired network devices are unreachable

Hi,

I am having issues with PI after upgrading it to 3.4.0. Before I used to get email alerts when wired network devices are unreachable but now I am not getting the alerts.

I also noticed that when the switch is down, I can still see the Reachability Status as "Reachable" Attached is the image for more understanding.

Please help.

Thank you,

Teja.

what version did you upgrade from? The reason I ask is that the notifications changed and you'll need to adjust. I don't recall exactly, but I believe it was when we upgraded from 3.1.x to 3.2.

Administration / Settings / System Settings
Alarms and Events
Alarm Notification Policies

+

Virtual Domain : ROOT-DOMAIN

Wired>Switches>SNMPReachability Status is Unreachable

Next

Device Groups
Network Devices

+

Notification Destination

+ Email

I checked those settings and everything looks good. I have the notification Email destination.

I am receiving other notifications like High CPU utilization, Config Archive Success Failure.

But I am just not receiving when the switches are unreachable.

One more think I noticed is that. We have 250 switches and I see a policy in Monitor / Monitoring Tools / Monitoring Policies / Automonitoring - Link and Trunk Ports / Collection Status / Details there I see total devices 134 only. I suspect if that is causing the issue. Like when the trunk uplink ports went down, its not alerting me.

I have a Test switch and I don't see that switch in those total 134 devic list.

Have you applied Prime Infrastructure Patches - PI_3_4_1-1.0.27.ubf and

[device support] Prime Infrastructure 3.4 - Device Pack 6
Device-Pack-6-PI3.4-09.ubf?

Can you delete or create another alarm policy just for unreachable devices?

Check as well if your server have enough memory, try to restart prime and see.

Yes we applied  Prime Infrastructure Patches - PI_3_4_1-1.0.27.ubf and  [device support] Prime Infrastructure 3.4 - Device Pack 6  Device-Pack-6-PI3.4-09.ubf. Please see the attached Image.

I deactivated the policy and activated, nothing changed. I created a new policy, nothing changed.

Server has enough memory.

I restarted prime twice and nothing changed.

Thank you,

Teja.

The attachment doesn't show, got an error.

Under Inventory, are the devices on Managed state?

You mentioned some of them you see and some of them you don't, is one of them that work and doesn't have the same model and ios version?

For the one that doesn't work, can you delete it in the inventory and rediscover and try again, like use your test switch.

Can you create another policy instead of using "SNMPReachability Status is Unreachable" choose "Switch down" and apply to a test device.  Note that alarm will not show right away as it will poll for a certain number of minutes.

We upgraded from 3.1.0 to 3.4.0

ok, then I'm sure that's what you're running into. I believe we were at 3.1.7 when we upgraded to 3.2 and the emails stopped coming. As I recall the reconfig needed was fairly simple. It was documented, either in the release notes, or it will be in the admin guide. Can't recall which offhand but I'm sure if you read the section on setting up email notifications and notification groups it will get you back in business.

Hi

Having the same sort of issue, after /var folder went to 100%.  No emails when device is down, but emails from other events.  Could you let me know the commands you rant to solve the issue.

Thanks

Paul
