Cisco Switches support mini-RMON:
events, alarms, stats and history
If you require additional groups, you may want to look at the Network Analyis Module (NAM).

Cisco catalyst switches only support mini-RMON which means you will only get layer 2 statistics.
If you want full RMON2 support then you will need to use either NAM or rmon probe.

thanks for your answer davistan.
For what i read, i understand that rmon probe is a equipment right? and NAM is just a software.
am i correct on this?
Do i need both? Is there a minimum switch series in which the NAM and rmon probe can be used?
Thanks

Both the rmon probe and NAM are hardware. The NAM is a blade that will fit into different types of switches and routers.
The NAM will monitor traffic on the ports of the switch or router its in, and a probe is attached to equipment its monitoring.
you don't need both, it depends on where you want to put them on the network.
