DCNM OVA help

Hi Friends,

I am working on installing DCNM via the OVA and I am kind of lost on where to go next.  We want to install DCNM to help monitor our Nexus 7010 and 5548s.

I have the server deployed and connected to the Oracle database and everything appears to be functioning properly.

What should be my next step?  How do I use DCNM?  Do i need to install the client next?

Sorry, I didn't catch at first that you're using the brand new DCNM 7.0. I'm not so sure if they've changed things client-side with this major new release since the documentation hasn't all been updated everywhere. You will probably be better off contacting the TAC for assistance.

You do know that "DCNM 7.0(1) release is specifically targeted to manage Dynamic Fabric Automation (DFA) architecture. This release is not intended for traditional DCNM LAN/SAN users, looking for 6.x upgrade for bug fixes and regular maintenance updates.", right?

Last I heard, the 6.x release train is being updated going forward for the more traditional (non-DFA) sort of features.

Yes, you would launch the Java-based client from your PC by browsing to the server and authenticating.

Have you had a look at the DCNM Fundamentals Guide? Specifically refer to the section on installing and launching the client.

Hi Marvin,

Yes I have had a look at that document.

I have deployed the DCNM Virtual appliance and according to this document:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/sw/7_x/dcnm/installation/master_files/OVA_Installation_Guide/Managing_Applications_DCNM_OVA_Deployment.html#wpxref52908

I should be able to access the Cisco DCNM web UI via the IP address of the virtual machine. However when I try to navigate to the machine ip address, i just get a blank screen in my web browser.

It appears the DCNM service is running from the output of the appmgr status dcnm command on the console.

Not sure how to proceed.

The DCNM server listens on port 8080 by default, so you should be navigating to:

http://:8080/dcnm-client/index.html

Is that not working?

I am unable to navigate to that URL.  any ideas?

Hi Marvin,

I did not realize that DCNM 7.x was only for DFA and not for LAN users.  I am working with a customer who had already started down the 7.x path.  I will redirect them down the 6.x path which is the way I have done DCNM in the past.

Thank you for all your help.

Sure thing, thanks for the rating.

If you're a partner, there's a session coming up this Wednesday (19 February 2014) on the DCNM releases. Go to the Partner Community and search for the "Voice of the Engineer DC Byte-Z" event.

I recalled the agenda for that session when I double checked the version in your case.
