DNS and Default-Gateway settings for hosts?

Hello, it might be very noob question, but I wonder - I have a router with built-in switch. I made the router DHCP server for VLAN1, but I was wondering what is the proper way of configuring it - should the DNS and Default-Gateway be the SVI of VLAN1 or real addresses like the router's public interface for Default-Gateway and let's say 1.1.1.1 for DNS.

I configured the router with the name-server command and dns-lookup, so he does DNS requests, but I wondered which is best and does it make any difference for the router (like making it work harder or something like that).

I prefer using external server, because as much as your memory is big the DNS cache can fill it up .
and for GW it must be SVI it can not be public IP address.
