Entered wrong register when doing password recovery

I was trying to walk an on-site technician through to do a password recovery. He mistakenly enter 'confreg 0x2124' instead of 0x2142 while at the rommon prompt, after that we'd never be able to get back to the router again, when we tried to reboot it, it displayed funny characters, and it didn't accept the Ctrl-break.

Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Hi,

The config register setting of 0x2124 will result in the console baud rate set to 19200 instead of the default 9600. So change the baud rate on HyperTerminal or whatever you are using to 19200 and the funny characters will no longer appear...

Once that is done, you can set the config-register to the correct value and re-try the procedure...

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

Hello,

In adition to the post of Paresh there are a couple of documents describing the settings in detail. One of them "Use of the Configuration Register on All Cisco Routers" can be found at

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps133/products_tech_note09186a008022493f.shtml

Just in case you have another technician not hearing so good and using a completely different number ;-)

Hope this helps! Please rate all posts.
