LMS 3.0 Device Monitoring Problems

I have a newly installed LMS 3.0 with the latest updates and running on Windows 2003 Server.

There are two test devices set up that are being managed by IPM, RME, Campus, and DFM.

DFM is only getting config management traps from the devices though. If I unplug the router or the switch so that they are unreachable by LMS, or even if I pop out modules, etc. DFM does not indicate that anything is wrong -- even after waiting an hour.

What do I need to do to get things going ?

P.S. Also, when I'm logged in as Admin and go under DFM's polling and thresholds, none of the polling parameters are accessable. It says "This operation cannot be performed on this group" if you try to change or even look at All Devices, Device Groups, or User Defined groups.

Spent the entire day working with the Cisco TAC and the dude finally concluded that everything looked good to him, but he didn't know what the problem was, and would contact the developer.

Please help if you've encountered any of this before or know what to do. Thanks.

It sounds like DFM is not fully managing these devices. What type of devices are they? What state are they in within DFM (i.e. Known, Learning, or Questioned)? There might also be a problem with one of the DfmServers. Check the pdshow output and make sure DfmServer and DfmServer1 are running.

In order to view polling parameters, you must select a Device Type Group (e.g. Routers). Once you do, clicking on View or Edit should work.

Joe,

Thanks for jumping in and helping us with this.

The devices are a 3640 router and a 6513 switch.

Both are in a "known" status to DFM. I can deleted them, re-import them from CS, and rediscover them no problem.

When I expand the device type under polling parameters nothing is there. Nothing is shown under All devices or User defined groups either.

It's almost as if DFM knows about these two devices in one part of itself (i.e. it discovered them), but it doesn't know about them in other parts (i.e. the parts that poll). I can unplug the devices and DFM doesn't even notice.

Here is the PDSHOW output with some DFM related entries:
