LMS Win Server 8 installation did not working - different options tried

After following the instructions provided in the following forum discussions:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2130443

https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-9132

the installation of the LMS 4.2 (the end goal implies install 4.2.3) did not work as usual with this manufacturer apps. I am getting an error:

ERROR:  Failed to execute C:\PROGRA~2\CSCOpx/bin/cwjava.exe -cw C:\PROGRA~2\CSCOpx -

cw:jre lib/jre  -cp:p MDC/tomcat/webapps/rme/WEB

Something that should be relatively simple is an entire nightmare. I have tried at least 5 times to install this application (based on all the recommendations from the link and now I will have to rebuild the server and try from scratch). Can anyone please give me some orientation on this issue?

thanks a lot,

Abraham

Hi Osman,

Please let me know your experience with this Windows LMS installation and operation.

I want to add that now the topology and subnet grouping is not working properly on this "app". I could run the discovery but some "automatic" properties of the tool are not working as expected. I am opening "another" TAC Case,

Dear Abraham,

I tried with soft appliance too (.ova file) and it was successful in terms of installation but when I tried to discover network, hits another error. it seems a few process can't start such as "jrm" and I couldn't manage to start it manually too. Maybe there is some problem with virtual machine specification itself as I tweaked CPU frequency in virutal machine configuration to make it run. I'm going to install it on a new VM with sufficent CPU resources and will let you know the results.

But be aware that soft appliance can not handle more than 2500 devices.

Osman

Hi Osman,

After working for many days with the CISCO TAC Engineer, the solution was found. Even though I install the LMS using the Administrator Account of the Windows Server, some permissions to access files/folders were not set correctly.

Once the TAC Engineer ran the following command, now the server/features are working fine however I am still testing them.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\cacls.exe "D:\Program Files\CSCOpx" /T /G Administrators:F casusers:F

I could discover 4K devices in our network and change DCR Credential smiultaneously with no issues.

One additional detail is that our server only has 4 sockets (CPU Count) so I am limited to 30K MIB Objects to be monitored. It has nothing to do with the LMS installation but is a warning that I got in the LMS when I was running the discovery.

regards

Abraham
