RME not able to manage devices

Hi,

we use LMS 2.6 with CS 3.0.5 and RME 4.0.5.

Our problem is that RME complains about missing packages, e.g.

CM0056 Config fetch failed for DFAK01 Cause: CM0204 Could not create DeviceContext for 14 Cause: CM0205 Device package for 10.47.252.41 not found Check whether the specified package path - "d:/CISCOW~1/MDC/tomcat/webapps/rme/WEB-INF/lib/pkgs" is correct Action: Check if required device packages are available in RME. Action: Check if protocol is supported by device and required device package is installed.

We updated already to latest packages via CS|Software Center|Device Update, including Mdf 1.21.

IC_Server.log shows missing pkgs SharedCdaIOS and SharedPollerCatSwitch, in fact we found these pkgs only under

\CiscoWorks\temp\rme_cids_pkgs !?!

What happended? What can we do? We just installed LMS plain from CD!

Thanks in advance

But this is probably Windows 2003, and the values for TEMP and TMP are set to a path that does not conform to DOS 8.3 naming conventions. We have a bug for this, but we were not able to reliably reproduce nor figure out exactly why it plagues certain users.

To resolve this, you need to uninstall RME, then set your TEMP and TMP environment variables to something short like C:\WINDOWS\TEMP. Then reinstall RME.

If you also have AV software installed, you should stop it from scanning NMSROOT as that can also cause installation and runtime problems especially with .jar and .zip files.

Thanks for info, think I understand.

Would it be also an workaround to copy all files from "d:\CiscoWorks\temp\rme_cids_pkgs" to "d:/CISCOW~1/MDC/tomcat/webapps/rme/WEB-INF/lib/pkgs", not overwriting existing files?

A question about your suggestion: How do I uninstall only a single package like RME and not the complete bundle?

Yes, this will work, but you must also make sure the contents of d:/CISCOW~1/MDC/tomcat/webapps/rme/WEB-INF/lib/pkgs and D:/CISCOW~1/www/classpath/com/cisco/nm/xms/psu/pkgs/rme are identical in terms of .zip files.

However, the bad TEMP and TMP can also cause other installation problems, and it would be safer to uninstall, then reinstall RME.

When you launch the uninstall app, it will present you with a list of applications to uninstall. You can select RME alone.
