SNMP Troubles on Cisco Equipment

Hi,

I am using Cisco MWAM card as GGSN.

I am also collecting SNMP data via some Perl scripts. My problem is simple, some times, it looks that the MWAM is not responding to my SNMP GET REQUEST.

When doing a debug SNMP on the node, I have seen some messages like

Timer HC Fired

Timer HC Rearmed

Timer Delayed

etc.

I would like any help regarding the following points:

- How to decode these debug messages (meaning of each message ) ?

- Is it normal that the MWAM not respond some times to my SNMP GET REQUEST or respond with NULL value ? Why ?

- Any other help is welcome.

Best Regards

Mark,

I'm not familiar with your hardware, but if these devices are under a great load of network traffic, SNMP get requests will get dropped (SNMP normally runs at a much lower priority).

Can you verify how busy your device is? If you are debugging SNMP on the device itself--this could raise your cpu/memory utilization quite a bit.

You might want to look at putting a sniffer or ethereal on the link for your SNMP network management station.

HTH
