LMS is currently at 4.2.5
Upgrade licenses are intended for customers migrating from 2.x or 3.x to 4.x (major:major). They are not covered under LMS Maintenance Support (SAS)

Hi ngold,
want to upgrade to 4.2.5 from 4.2.3.is that possible to directly upgrade to 4.2.5 from 4.2.3?.waht is the difference between direct upgrade and remote upgrade.
Thanks

You need to install 4.2.4 first. This is described in the 4.2.5 release notes.
A direct upgrade is when you stay on the same server. A remote upgrade is migrating the older version's data onto a new server.

Thankyou Marvin.........
And what is the use of repository?
i am upgrading in soft appliance ,i have moved tar file to localdisk.
After this cisco says to crate a repository... what is the use of this?
Thanks in Advance

You're welcome.
A repository is just a term Cisco uses with ADE-OS-based products (Prime LMS, Prime Infrastructure, ISE etc.) to refer to a place to locate files.
The repository can point to the localdisk location where you have uploaded the files.
(ADE-OS is the Application Development Environment Operating System. It is basically the shell Cisco has built on top of Red Hat Linux to act as a layer of abstraction to simplify the admin access to the system and provide somewhat common means of interaction across products.)

Hi marvin,
step 2: Unzip the lms4_2_5_lnx_k9.zip file to extract Cisco_Prime_LAN_Management_Solution_4_2_5.tar.gz.
[myhost/ root-ade myloc] unzip lms4_2_5_lnx_k9.zip
Step 3 Copy the Cisco_Prime_LAN_Management_Solution_4_2_5.tar.gz to local disk partition of LMS 4.2.4/LMS 4.2 installed server (/localdisk).
Step 4 Log in with your credentials to the VM Console through Vsphere client.
Step 5 Create either a local or remote repository. A repository contains URL and credential details
I have already moved file to local disk as mentioned in step 3
But after that cisco (in step 5) is asking me to create a reprository after loggin in vsphere client.as i have already moved Tar file to local disk(as mentioned in step 3 )what is the use of creating reprository?(because the Tar file is already in localdisk)
Second question:Do i want to loggin in to Vsphere client (step 4)while creating reprository?why ?
Third question:while upgrading from 4.2.3 to 4.2.4 should i take backup or data from 4.2.4 will be automatically migrated to 4.2.4?
Thanks

You need to use the "repository" since that's how Cisco designed the product. You can simply point it to the "myloc" locations where you have unzipped the file.
You don't strictly need to use the Vsphere client but doing so will allow you to watch the console as opposed to relying on your ssh session.
You don't need to backup - the data will migrate automatically (or, more accurately, remain in place).

thanks
last question:
what about fail-over plan for soft appliance ?
How to do it?
Thanks in advance

5% or fewer customers run PI in HA mode.
It's generally much easier and more effective to use VMware snapshots and application backups for disaster recovery.

VM ware snap shots ok..what about application backups?how to take it ?is any commands available?
If upgrade process failed ,how to restore this app backups?
Thanks

Application backups are covered in the Admin Guide.
I've done several dozen minor upgrades of LMS and never had one fail. If it does, the TAC can assist by identifying the root cause and providing a resolution.
