Admin password recovery options for old v.4.10.3 virtual defense center

Hello,

Does anyone know how to recover the admin password for an older v4.10.3 Sourcefire virtual defense center?

Both the GUI and the CLI admin prompt for password, but fail,  even though what I enter is correct and even worked for a short time before entering this state.

If the admin for GUI  and  CLI is locked,  does it unlock after x hours?

Tried interrupting the boot sequence to go into single user mode, but I guess that may not work on virtual appliances.

Did you try the interrupting from a VMware console session?

I imagine if it is running 4.10.3 it hasn't been used in a long time. Is there specific data you need to get from it that would preclude you from just building a new 6.2 system.

Thanks for reply..yes, unless I am misunderstanding you, I did try interruption from vmware console to prevent regular kernel load and enter single user mode but, keystroke did not stop automatic load, which makes me think that this method to enter single user mode does not work with virtual machines.
