Hi,
I'm trying to configure the 5505 to support multicasting using dense mode. According to all documentation I've found it seems that I should use the '
ip pim dense-mode' command to enable DM. However, this command doesn't seem to exist on the router:
ciscoasa(config-if)# ip pim dense-mode
^
ERROR: % Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
And 'help ip' yields this result:
ciscoasa(config-if)# help ip
USAGE:
[no] ip address <ip_address> [<mask>] [standby <sby_ip_addr>]
[no] ip address [<ip_address> <mask>] pppoe [setroute]
[no] ip address dhcp [setroute] [retry <4-16>]
show ip [address [<interface> | <if_name> [pppoe]]]
show ip [address [<interface> | <if_name> [dhcp lease]]]
show ip [address [<interface> | <if_name> [dhcp server]]]
....
I do have a 'pim' command, but the dense-mode subcommand is not available there either:
ciscoasa(config-if)# help pim
USAGE:
[no] pim
[no] pim accept-register {list <acl>|route-map <name>}
[no] pim old-register-checksum
[no] pim rp-address <address> [<acl>][bidir]
[no] pim spt-threshold infinity [group-list <acl>]
show pim bsr
show pim group-map [info-source]
show pim interface [<interface-name]|state-on|state-off]
show pim join-prune statistic [<interface-name>]
show pim neighbor[count|detail] [<interface-name>]
show pim range-list [config]
show pim topology [reserved|route-count]
show pim traffic
show pim tunnel [<interface-name>]
clear pim {counters|reset|topology [<address>]}
debug pim [group|interface|neighbor]
Isn't dense mode supported on the 5505? Is there another way of enabling dense mode?
I'm running ASA 8.4(1)
Thanks a lot,
Jon-Erling

Hi Jon,
What was the documentation you found regarding the command?
Unfortunately dense mode is not supported on the ASA, it only supports Sparse mode.
I am not sure if there is any plan for a future support.
Thanks,
Itzcoatl

Dense mode and SSM (Sourec Specific multicast) are not supported and there is no Plan for support.
Thanks,
