ASA 5520 - Best Practice for Images and Multiple Disks

Hey all,

I am upgrading our ASA 5520 to the recommended version for the latest security vulnerability - problem is I want to keep the old image in place in case something goes awry, and as such disk0 is too full to upload the new image as well as ASDM image.  We do have a second disk, but I am worried that having the anyconnect image on one disk and the ASA image and ASDM image on the second disk will not work as expected, is that correct? Is best practice to put all three on the same disk, or does it span across disks without issues? Sorry for the beginner question, I am new to all this!

Answered my own question - works like a charm. Tried it in the lab first and then in production.

hi,

to my knowledge there's only disk0: or flash memory on a 5520.

do you have an external USB on disk1:?

i would suggest configure a primary and secondary boot image on the ASA.

boot system disk0:/NEW-IMAGE.bin
boot system disk0:/OLD-IMAGE.bin

do a housekeeping on older ASA and anyconnect images once the new image is running stable.
