For the ASA5525X and ASA5515X, is it possible to support the copper based failover connection between two ASAs in Active/Standby failover without the heartbeat connection being direct, back-to-back copper, but instead connect through trunked switches across a fiber path?

Hi @lcaruso,
Yes, you can use link between 2 ASA devices (same goes for FTD) either by direct, back-to-back connection, or with switch between devices.
You can check this link, to see the requirements. If going via switch, create dedicated VLAN for this communication, with just ASA HA links inside.
