We have a second ASA 5510 that is suppose to be a hot standby. I need to find out that, as a hot standby, does it have to have the same licenses as the ASA that it backs up. We purchased 50 SSL VPN licenses for that unit. If it fails over, we need to make sure the failover asa can allow SSL VPN connections. I'd hate to think we have to double our license purchases, but I need to find out for sure.

If you are running version 8.3 and above, then you don't need to have the same number of licenses on both failover ASA.
If you are running version 8.2 and below, then the answer is YES, same number of licenses will be needed, otherwise it will disable the failover.

Does this count also towards context licensing?
Meaning that I can have 10 context's in the active node, and not needing to buy 10 context's also for the standby node?

Yes, that counts towards the context license as well.
