ASA running 8.3.1 reboots when I try to upload new image

Hello guys,

I'm running a couple of 5520 (with failover configuration) and fw 8.3.1. Everything worked fine until I try to upgrade firewall to new fw version: 8.4.1 .

When I try to upload new firrmware or asdm image, ASA,  the appliance reboots during tftp session. I've already tried to upload new images on both appliance, or use CLI either ASDM, but the result is always the same: ASA reboots.

Flash disk have enough free space, in according to this screenshot:

ASA# dir

Directory of disk0:/

I've deleted old ASDM image (asdm-831.bin) in order to free other space, but the upgrade operation is still to fail. Or  is even worse, becouse I've tried to upload asdm-831.bin image into the apppliance, but also this operation fails:

From my point of view, the problem isn't the image but could be the firmware I'm running, becouse using fw. 8.0.1 I was able to upalod asdm 8.3.1, but using fw 8.3.1 I can't upload the same image.

Does anyone found this problem and can help me, please?

Thank you

Alfredo

does it generate a crash file? Use the command "show crash" If there is a file check the date to see of it is recent. If it is old please erase it "clear crash"

I normally use the command "copy tftp flash" and then just add the rest of the required parameters. I also normally use TFTPD32 for this upgrades.

Have you tried this procedure first on the secondary unit?

Hello Paul,

Thank you for your kind answer.

Appliance doesn't generate any crash file.

Yes, the first appliance i tried to upgrade is the secondary.

I laso use tftpd32 and now I've tried using the simple command copy tftp flash, but the result is still the same.

Any other ideas?

Thank you

Alfredo
