Hi, I am having problems with the ASDM IDM launcher contacting our firewalls. I believe I have installed the updated version of the launcher relevant to our ASAs which I downloaded from the firewall itself via a browser. However when I try to launch it, it hangs at contacting the device please wait.
Any advice is appreciated

Is it working for anybody else?
This is most often caused by client side Java issues. They are many - new ones seem to come up every time Oracle releases a Java update. it's probably the most common question type seen here over the years.
Recently, we have been seeing a lot of people needing to uncheck the following Java Security option ("Use SSL 2.0...")

Hi,
My colleague can get connected with no problem. I am unable to see the Java security option in your response. I didn't notice a tick box for the Java Security during the install
thanks Laura

The screenshot is from the Java Control panel.
The Java Control panel is an applet in the Windows control panel. Open it and click on the advanced tab.

Hi,
tick box was unchecked.
thanks Laura

If you click on the Java console icon in ASDM launcher prior to connecting, we might be able to see something useful from its log messages.
Also, if you are handy with Wireshark, we can sometimes see an error from the packet decodes.

You might try adding the ASA addresses to the Java Exception sites list.
Go back to that Java Control Panel and you will see it under the Security tab.
While you are there, make sure your Java security is not set to "Very High" - we should have it "High" instead.
I am runing the same Java 8 update 131 as you (it is the most recent version as of today) and ASDM is working fine for me.

Hello, I'm having the same issue described in this thread. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Java and the asdm launcher. I'm now running 8u131 down from the latest version 8u151 (which also didn't work). I have cleared temp items, cache, etc. Please help me sort this out.
Thanks

Hello;
I am having the same issue with my ASDM, it hangs on discovering devices. I opened a TAC with Cisco and so far i've just been sending screen shots, but in the mean time, it's mention Java 8, update 45 would work? Well, i've looked for it on Java and all i got was release notes, etc. does anyone have a direct link to the down java 8, update 45?
Thanks folks
