Hi,
If I buy cisco equipment from ebay can I put a SMARTnet contract on that used piece of equip?
I've heard that there is some re-registration fee/process that apply when you want to apply a SMARTnet to a used piece of cisco gear.
Thanks,
Ben

Be very careful!!!!
I have heard too many horror stories about used gear and SmartNet coverage. Scenario A. Used router purchased on E-bay for $1500. SmartNet registration attmepted. rejected by Cisco but if you pay re-license fee and inspection fee that totals $1200 you can get covered. Total cost $2700. Same router new at CDW $2500.
Now,
that being said, I am not sure if Cisco has changed their policy on used gear since it is such a prolific market. No one really enforced this until after the dot.com bust and a lot of used gear started showing up on the net. Then all of the hardware companies realized that they could enforce these rules.
My advice is to be very careful about doing this.

Yes, you can buy Smartnet once you go through the relicensing process.
Here's a link to the details:
Your account team can provide you pricing so as Travis mentions, you can compare the Total costs of all your options. It's definitely not recommended to buy used gear for production environments, but the program is available to Relicense if the Risks are acceptable to you and your company.
Good luck.
