Cisco FMC upgrade 7.2.5 to 7.4.2 issues

Hello,

yesterday I started upgrading my company Cisco FMCv from version 7.2.5 to new recommended 7.4.2. Of course I created a backup stored in separate backup server and I uploaded upgrading file downloaded from Cisco downloading website. After uploading file I started a upgrade. At first it went well but after over an 1h machine was booted but I couldn't log in with WebUI. I got some default UI and when I entered username and password I got error message that authorization failed. I tried to log in from CLI but I saw many messages about pinging mysql with try 1-X and it was like 50-60 tries. When I tried to log in with our main account for CLI I got message to change password. I set new one but then it get stuck. Nothing happened. It seems like database and tomcat was not started correctly. So I restored backup from yesterday and all works fine.

My question is: Is there any option that after second try of upgrading it will happen again? Is this something out of my hands and only depends on upgrading process? Maybe I should upgrade not from downloaded file but from this one which was already founded by FMC in Upgrade tab? What do you guys think about this?

What platform are you running on (VMware? version? or KVM etc.?).

This type of issue usually gets caught in the readiness check - I assume yours ran fine.

Did it build a log of the attempt under /var/log/sf? You can check that for issues if it is there after your restore. There may also be a troubleshooting file generated under /var/common. TAC would be able to parse it for salient information.

Ideally, you would open a TAC case for the second try. I have upgraded many many FMCs and never encountered the issue you say. But then, every installation is just a little bit different.

Hi,

We have VMware ESXI 7.0. I couldn't get to logs cause when I log in to CLI system is asking me to change password. I am putting new one but theb system stucks. It likes database is not running. I have done second try but instead of uploading upgrade file I use option from FMC to install. I think its done cause in CLI it asking me to log in but WebUI is some kind of old version and cannot log in
