I tend to use FTD at the DC for firewalling and Internet filtering.

I tend to use MX at branches, edges, or for building SD-WAN connections over the Internet (and if SD-WAN connectivity back to the DC is needed, you would also have an MX their in VPN concentrator mode - and quite possible an FTD as well - they are not mutually exclusive).
