Cisco IOS local password requirements

Hi there,

Can someone tell me what the requirements are for Cisco IOS local passwords? (permitted characters, maximum password length etc)?

I am in the process of developing an offline tool to create Type 9 hashes from a plain text password provided by the user. It's for those times when you need to create configs and don't have a switch or router handy.

Hi,

There are no requirements for local password in IOS. You can enforce that
but its not present by default.

After a lot of testing, I did find some limitations:

Invalid characters in passwords = " and ?

Character limit = 127
