Hello

As a Home User I am trying to understand the use of an Intrusion Prevention System using a Cisco IPS 4240 K9.

How do I obtain a trial licence key?

The IPS 4240 is not intended for home users. It is an enterprise class system.

Also, that product is end of sales for a long time. no new licenses or support contracts are available.

You would be better served getting a small ASA 5506 with FirePOWER Services and learning that.
