The difference is in the enforcement Method, for L2 means that the enforcement method uses L2 technologies such as VLAN, 802.1x, on the other hand, L3 uses L3 tech such as Access-list
If your talking about the NAC appliance, L3 means a client that is more then 1 hop away from the CAS...L2 means the client is Layer 2 adjacent with the CAS...
thats the answer from the clean access side of the house...
