having a weird issue and need opinions on whether firewall is causing it.
Have an ASA5505 pair (version 8.4.2) (active/standby). Users behind the firewall connect to a remote server on the internet. The server is maintained by the same users that are trying to connect to it. They login to the server and run a query in which the results are displayed in a adobe swf format. The query comes back saying that the adobe flash player needs to be installed to view the query results.
Same users can take their PC and connect in front of the firewall (bypassing it) and can successfully display the same
page with no issues.
Users can also connect to a remote site via a PPTP connection through the ASA, and use the remote sites internet access and they can
successfully display the page.
now here is where it gets strange. Once a user is successful via either of the above methods, they can then access that page normal
from behind the ASA and the swf chart displays correctly. But if the user clears the cookies from their workstation, and re-attempt
the connection, it fails to work again. So it appears once the cookie is in place, it will continue to work. But it will not
work without resorting to one of the other access methods to cache or store the cookie.
I have no idea why the ASA would have anything to do with this, but repeated tests are consistent. It happens with multiple
browsers. I've done packet captures and see nothing out of the ordinary. But I can't rule out the firewall if they are able
to view the page when they are either not behind it or tunneling through it.
any ideas?
