Yes - VMS contains the CSA MC, which is required to manage and monitor the CSA deployment.
Either VMS Basic, VMS Restricted, or VMS Unrestricted could be used to manage the CSA deployment.

Hi,
I have VMS Basic License and 4 Nos. of CSA license which come along with the Basic License. My question is, can these CSA licenses be used to deploy Agent-Kits on servers other than the VMS server? 1 CSA license has been consumed by the VMS server. Since I have only 1 VMS server in my network, I was wondering if I could deploy the other licenses on my Exchange, ADS & Proxy servers too?

If they are server agents, yes.
If they are desktop agents, no.
Server agents cost quite a bit more than desktops.
Check your licenses under Maintenance>Licenses to see what you actually have installed.

Hi -
The 3 server licenses are intended to protect the VMS Servers. If you purchased the CSA Starter kit, you are licensed to deploy 1 agent to any server you please and receive support when doing so. You also likely have a 10 desktop license in your system if you indeed purchased the CSA Starter Kit.
If you choose to use the extra 2 licenses, you may not be able to receive support from Cisco, since this is not supported.
If you'd like to protect additional Servers or Desktops, you should consider purchasing the licenses with Smartnet so you can receive the best support possible.

Hi Peter,
We purchased the Starter Kit back in December 2003 and there was only 1 Server license which I assumed was for the MC. Am I working on a different assumption than others who speak of 3 licenses or am I just not good at reading?
Thanks!

Hi Tom -
All VMS versions include CSA licenses for 3 server licenses to be used for installing the various VMS components, up to 3 servers.
The CSA Starter kit includes 1 Add'l Server license and 10 Desktop licenses. These are for customers to use in their network as they set fit.
This can be confirmed in this link:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps5057/products_data_sheet09186a00801eb725.html
Here's a little more clarification for the included licenses when registering the CSA MC Console:
"Cisco Security Agents: Includes three (3) server agents specifically for use with VMS servers. Agents may not be used with any other non-VMS server. Additional agents must be purchased separately."
Here's the link to the info:
Please let me know if I can help further.
thanks
