That is what I need help. I need to upgrade my FWSM form 2.x to the latest verion. If seems that I do have any other partition other than the main partition: See below:
Directory of disk:/
No files in directory
59748352 bytes total (59670528 bytes free)
COLO-6509-FW#
COLO-6509-FW#
COLO-6509-FW# dir flash:
Directory of flash:/
0 -wx 5840964
1 -wx 3419224
2 rw- 106961
COLO-6509-FW#
How does it look like when there is multiple partitons? Also, can I run the FWSM w/o extra partition or mainteance partiton?
Thanks

Flash: contains the 3 files it shows
Disk: contains the config files
MP is different than this. You would have to reload the module from the switch with the following config.
hw module 1 reset cf:1
to be able to get into the MP.
Follow these links to upgrade from 2.x to the latest.

If I have the FWSN faliver, shoudl I upgrade the active one first of the standy first?
What is the squesnce?
1.) upgrade the seconday unit mainteance partition
2.) reboot the seconday unit
3.) upgrade the seconday unit application software.
4.) reboot the seconday unit
5.) upgrade the primary unit mainteance partition
6.) reboot the primary unit
7.) upgrade the primary unit application software.
8.) reboot the primary unit
If it is not correct, could you rearrange, dlete or insert any procedure.
Thanks

That sounds good. Cisco does not support hitless upgrade for major upgrade like going from 1.x to 3.x or 2.x to 4.x or 3.x to 4.x (two diff. 1st numbers). You will suffer downtime. Pls. schedule ample downtime.

If you get to the maintenance partition, will the FWSM stop functioning?
