Email notifications real time?

When I run a report on the IPS it shows detections on Sunday. I just got several emails this morning Tuesday on those detections. Shouldn't I be getting these notifications when the IPS detects them? I know our email server is working fine or else people would screaming at me to fix it.

Any ideas why I'm not getting IPS detections in real time?

With IME, there is a notification interval, can you confirm that it has the right value?

Also, you can send a test e-mail and calculate how long it takes for it to arrive to your inbox.

Do you have any sort of e-mail security application?
