FTD 2140 upgrade question

Stuart Patton

Hi,

I have an FTD2140 running ASA 9.8(4)29 / FXOS  2.2(2.138) that I want to upgrade.  According to the download site, 9.16(2) interim is the current gold star version.  If I upload this package through FXOS, will the firewall reload into appliance mode?  Will the ASA config be preserved?  Any other gotchas that I need to be aware of?

Reason for asking is that the documentation (link below) says that appliance mode is the default, however this was not an option on 9.8(4)29 and so presumably it's currently running in platform mode (no "show fxos mode" in this version).

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/firepower/quick_start/fp2100/firepower-2100-gsg/asa-appliance.html

Thanks,

Stuart

Hi BB,

The doc is helpful as far as the upgrade process goes, but it doesn't say whether it will move to appliance mode or not...it just says the same, which is "In 9.14 and later, Appliance mode is the default".  It doesn't say whether a device that is already in platform mode will reload in platform mode or whether it changes to appliance mode.

I know it sounds like I'm splitting hairs here, but I need to know if the firewall will need to reload twice - once for the upgrade, and then again if I want to convert to appliance mode.

Regards,

Stuart
