FWSM Module Disk Error

Under the System area on my FWSM module i run the sh disk: command. At the end I get error message "File Allocation Table might be corrupted, Recommend running fsck dsik:

Has anyone run this command on a FWSM Module. can it be run during normal operations i.e LIVE Traffic passing through the FWSM contexts?

I hav also had to rebuild several contexts to get traffic to pass through them, there was no indication in any logs that taffic was denied and ACL were all correct, could a corrupt .cfg file on the disk for context be causing this?

Hi Simon,

Yes, you can run 'fsck' in a live environment. You shouldn't run into any issues from this.

As for the problems passing traffic, a corrupt .cfg file on the disk shouldn't cause this. These files are only read when the blade first boots and it copies this config file from the disk to the context's running-config. A corrupt disk could prevent a context from loading its config correctly after a reboot, but as long as the output of 'show run' on the context was correct, a corrupt disk shouldn't affect traffic passing through the context.

Any Idea's as to why a context stops passing traffic out? we seemed to have fixed the issue by building a new context with exactly the same config.

Hi Simon,

Without having any data from the time of the problem, it would be tough to say what could cause this. I'm purely speculating, but things like resource limits, old code, or an unintended misconfiguration could be contributing factors.

The best bet would be to open a TAC case if you see the problem again. This would help diagnose the problem and find a solution for you.
