Hello,
This is my first post to Cisco forums. I've just bought a Cisco PIX 520 with a 2MB flash, 350MHz CPU, 128MB ram running IOS 4.4. How can I determine what the highest version of IOS I can upgrade to using the Cisco website. The firewall is licensed for 6 interfaces (unlimited) and has two nics. Also are the upgrades free or need to be bought (noticed there is a registration for a free 3DES license registration).
Thank you,
Frank

you need a support contract to download pix os updates. or, open a cco case for a known security vulnerability.
with the 2MB flash, the latest pix os you can run is 5.32, IIRC. You definitely cannot run the 6.x branch on that

Frank,
Your PIX can support upto version 5.1(x), higher versions require the flash card upgrade. I have a 520 with the 16 Meg flash card running the current 6.3, so it may be a good investment for you, depends on your application.
As for software availability, that depends on your support contract.
There is a chart at this URL which describes this in more detail.

Where on the Cisco site you can you find 5.1(x). I see 5.2 and higher available for download, but can't find anything older??? 5.1(x) plus the boot helper image is what I'll probably need. I have a 520 that's got a corrupted 2MB flash.
