ISR G2 IOS IPS Licensing

I have a 2921 with 15.1.(4) and security-k9 license.

Do I still need a subscription license or is this covered under SmartNet?

The Cisco Services for IPS on IOS document states at the top:

Effective with Cisco IOS Release 15.1(4)M, this feature is not available in Cisco IOS software.

Does this mean that the susbscription is no longer necessary?

Starting   with IOS 15.0(1)M1 Release, a valid IOS IPS Signature Subscription   license is required to be installed on 88x, 89x, 19xx, 29xx and 39xx   routers to be able to load signature packages released after a certain   date (to be announced) . To obtain and install this license, the   customer needs to purchase the Cisco Services for IPS contract SKU   relevant to the router model as well as the type and level of the   associated SMARTnet deliverables desired.

jocamare, that document you are referencing is older than the one I am talking about, so which one is correct?

Can you share the link of the file you are talking about?

Seems to me they both say the same.

Check page 2.

This one says explains it better.

Q. Does Cisco offer any support for IPS Signature licensing?

A. Yes. Subscriptions for signature updates require a license (contract) that you can include in the Cisco SMARTnet® services contract for an additional cost.

Even though the file is from 2010 is still valid until there is an update on this matter.
