Lost both app and maint PW - FWSM

How do I recover from a situation where I don't have either the maint or application partition pws for a 6500 FWSM? FW is not in service, so I can do anything I like to it... Would like to save existing config.

The MP login ID is root and the default password is cisco.

Now, if you forgot both the app and the mp password you can try to boot into the other application partition. I hope you haven't tried cf:5 yet.

From the switch

hw-module module mod_num reset cf:5

Hopefully this partition will have a code that it can boot into and you can login and then reset the MP password from there.

Give that a shot. If that fails pls. open a TAC case and file for an RMA. We do not ship just the flash.

Unfortunately, we lost the pw's to cf:1, cf:4, and CF:5, so RMA is our only option; we have started that process. Thanks for the reply.
