Hi,
Being a newby on the 501 series I encountered the following problem. Our company started servicing a client, who had fired the system operator. There was a new PIX 501 still in the box available, but we can't retrieve the password to configure the 501. The 'show version' command tells me it has vpn-3des enabled, it allows for 50 hosts, 5 IKE peers, etc. Normally you would give a hard reset on the device to get the factory defaults, but obviously there's no button. Are there any consequences regarding the activation key(s)? The device operates with PDM 2.2(2). Are there any solutions, so please let me know

Isn't the default password cisco? For pdm, the default username is blank.
How could you issue a show version if you don't have the password?
You can download the password wiping boot image, and upload if via tftp

Thanks for your reply.
The default passwords don't work, so probably somebody has been messing around.
The 'show version' just works fine, don't know why.
I'll try the wiping tool. Thanks again.
