MIgrateing ASA to cluster

I have some existing firewalls and I want to turn them into a cluster.  

What is the procedure for doing that? 

Is there a graceful way to do it or do I have to blow away the configs and start from scratch?

If not in Live or Production, i will suggest starting from scratch

1. make sure hardware same

2. A version of Code Same

3. look for cluster requirement and dedicated L2 Links

There are live.   Is there way to do it then or is this going to be a turn off make cluster turn on and then configure.
