netmask at work set at /4 (or 240.0.0.0)

hi all,

according to my ISP provider my netmask is /29 or 255.255.255.248 and my current firewall watchguard was set at /4 (or 240.0.0.0).  and i'm on migrating my watchguard to cisco asa 5515x.  my testing won't work properly on routing my inside to internet but when i setup a test it at home, everything works fine, routing inside or vpn routing...

i setup another cisco small business edition router, and i put a /29 netmask, it got an error "can't put gw on different subnet" so i can only put it to /4.  if i put first my watchguard netmask to /29, do you think my cisco router will work too and my current testing at work with asa will work too?  i can only test this on sunday, can't do changes on monday-saturday...

please help me shed on this mysterious mystery to my network knowledge, i'm more of a system administrator rather than a network administrator.

thanks for any comment you may add.

Hello Neetu,

Yes, it will.

On a router the default gateway must be on the same subnet as your interface,

yeah... my testing with my work is now working when everything is on netmask /4, my current firewall/ my new asa/my new linksys/cisco router... i so i think if i put all these to netmask /29, everything will work too...
