NIDS not reachable

Iam rather new to NIDS.

We have cisco NIDS- 4250 installed in our network. for past one day we are not able to ping NIDS ip 10.0.0.225. All the physical cables are working and no change has been made to the configuration.

IDS is not reachable even fromm its default gateway ie the next hop , which is a core switch.

NIDS is accessible via the serial console . and from NIDS console we are not able to ping other devices also.

tried swapping cables....

we have 5 interfaces on NIDS of which two , ie int0 and int5 are enabled.

I realise that you can access the appliance via a console but perhaps the following link might provide an answer:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps4077/products_field_notice09186a00802109dc.shtml

To summarize, both the IDS-4235 and IDS-4250 have been found to occasionally fail due to a "Inductor Failure" on the main board.

Specifically, "A Voltage Regulator Module (VRM) supplies five volts to the motherboard. Due to a faulty inductor assembly, components connected to the motherboard’s five volt supply rail may experience a voltage surge up to 10 volts and may fail due to electrical over stress (EOS). During the EOS event, failing components may emit a small to moderate amount of visible smoke."

Might be worth at least checking your sensor's service tag against the affected device list to eliminate this possibility...

I hope this helps,
